The Belarusian-Russian Osvei aircraft will be created within two years. This was stated by State Secretary of the Union State Sergei Glazyev.
“Everything necessary for the production of such an aircraft already exists. Frankly speaking, it is unclear to me why the deadlines are being pushed back, since prototypes existed in the Soviet Union and scientific and technical projects and developments have been underway in Russia for about 20 years. The work is ongoing. It should be completed within the next couple of years. There is significant groundwork there”, he told TASS in an interview.
It should be noted that in mid-March, the initiative of former Belarusian security officials BELPOL published documents indicating that the project is not progressing smoothly. In particular, in September last year the State Authority for Military Industry sent a letter to the Russian holding company Tekhnodinamika expressing concern about the implementation of the project.
The Belarusian side said that Russia’s Ural Civil Aviation Plant had failed to carry out a number of key tasks, including the production and testing of an aerodynamic model, and had not obtained a conclusion from the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute. At the same time, the design documentation, which was supposed to be ready in December 2024, will not be completed before the first quarter of 2026. Financing issues were also raised.
It was initially reported that the first Osvei aircraft would take flight in 2026.
