Belarusian human rights organisations have recognised seven more people as political prisoners. They are Alena Svirydzenka, Ihar Svirydzenka, Pavel Kucheryn, Aliaksandr Pelesh, Aliaksei Ihnatsenka, Yauhen Tsimashuk and Aliaksei Ramasiuk, the Viasna Human Rights Centre reports.
Alena Svirydzenka has been placed in pre-trial detention on charges of “calling for unlawful actions aimed at harming the national interests of the Republic of Belarus” under Article 361 of the Criminal Code.
Ihar Svirydzenka has been placed in pre-trial detention on charges of “calling for unlawful actions aimed at harming the national interests of the Republic of Belarus” under Article 361 of the Criminal Code.
Pavel Kucheryn has been placed in pre-trial detention on charges of insulting Aliaksandr Lukashenka under Article 368 of the Criminal Code.
Aliaksandr Pelesh was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment in a penal colony after being convicted of desecrating state symbols, insulting a public official, a judge and Aliaksandr Lukashenka, and inciting hatred or enmity under Articles 368, 130, 391, 370 and 369 of the Criminal Code.
Aliaksei Ihnatsenka was convicted of insulting a public official and Aliaksandr Lukashenka and sentenced to two years and six months of restricted freedom in an open-type correctional facility. He is serving his sentence.
Yauhen Tsimashuk was convicted of insulting Aliaksandr Lukashenka and sentenced to two years of restricted freedom in an open-type correctional facility. He is serving his sentence.
Aliaksei Ramasiuk was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment under the article on mass riots (Article 293 of the Criminal Code).
As of July 13, there were 860 recognised political prisoners in Belarus.
