A Belarusian man hid an expensive watch in his underwear to avoid paying customs duty at the border.
The man was travelling to Belarus from Lithuania in a BMW via the Kamenny Loh border crossing. He submitted a declaration for the temporary import of the vehicle and stated that he had no goods requiring customs declaration.
During an inspection, customs officers found an empty Tissot watch box among the driver’s personal belongings. The watch itself was discovered concealed beneath the man’s underwear.
The watch was valued at 12,000 Belarusian rubles, more than seven times the duty-free import allowance, according to the State Customs Committee.
Administrative proceedings have been initiated. The man faces a fine of up to 30 base units (1,350 Belarusian rubles) and confiscation of the watch.
