Belarus’ Interior Ministry said it has launched an inspection following the publication of a video on TikTok. The ministry claims the video’s author spread false information about police officers in Vaukavysk.
“A video appeared on the TikTok social media platform in which the author spread false information claiming that drug dens in Vaukavysk are allegedly protected by police officers. He also alleged that law enforcement officers deliberately recruit minors to participate in drug trafficking in order to arrest them later,” the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the author of the publication is a 39-year-old native of Vaukavysk who has been living in Poland for several years.
“While in Belarus, the man actively participated in unauthorized mass events and posted insulting online comments containing obscene language directed at police officers. In 2024, he was placed on the interstate wanted list for unlawful acts he had committed. Thirteen criminal cases related to extremist activity have already been opened against him,” the ministry said.
The authorities said an inspection is under way. The Interior Ministry believes the content of the video may qualify as defamation, insulting public officials and inciting hatred.
