Belarus will reopen its embassy in Slovakia, which has been closed since December 2023.
According to a decree signed by the Belarusian prime minister, the embassy is to be reopened by September 1, 2026.
“Restoring Belarus’s permanent diplomatic presence in Slovakia will significantly improve the effectiveness of efforts to develop political, trade, economic and investment ties, to explore opportunities for industrial cooperation, and to jointly enter new markets,” the government’s press service said.
Slovakia’s current Prime Minister Robert Fico is known for his pro-Russian views. He has repeatedly spoken out against sanctions on Belarus and Russia. Alyaksandr Lukashenka met with Fico this September during a visit to China and invited him to Belarus.
