Belarusian duty forces are recording drone intrusions into the country’s airspace almost daily, Air Force and Air Defense Commander Andrei Lukyanovich said on STV.
“We are practically recording violations of the state border in airspace on a daily basis. Our duty forces detect them. This is primarily связано with the complex geographical position of our country, because we have protrusions both into the territory of Ukraine and into the territory of the Russian Federation, in the south and in the east. Therefore, along routes that pass near our borders, unmanned aerial vehicles sometimes deviate and violate our airspace, including due to the influence of electronic warfare systems on their flight paths”, he said.
According to him, drones are destroyed if they pose a threat to critical facilities.
“We record these cases, and when the state border is violated, when entering the airspace of the Republic of Belarus, if this aerial target poses a threat to our critically important facilities, it is destroyed”, he said.
Lukyanovich did not cite the Russia-Ukraine war as the cause of such incidents, but did refer to the militarization of Europe.
“The military-political situation is currently сложная. It is primarily related to the unprecedented militarization of our neighbors, the European continent, the continued military conflicts that we observe, and the expansion of NATO”, he said.
