Belarus’ gross domestic product amounted to 118.6 billion rubles in January-May. In comparable prices, it increased by 0.9% compared with the same period last year. GDP growth stood at just 0.2% after the first four months of the year, while a decline was recorded in January-March.
The GDP deflator index amounted to 110.1% in January-April.
It should be noted that, under the official socio-economic development forecast approved by Lukashenka, GDP is expected to grow by 2.8% for the full year.
Labour productivity measured by GDP declined by 0.1% in January-April to 22,640.6 rubles.
Agricultural output across all categories of farms amounted to 2.37 billion rubles in May, up 9.1% from May last year. In agricultural organisations, output increased by 9.4% to 2.34 billion rubles. Over the first five months of the year, production across all farm categories rose by 4.3% to 10.49 billion rubles, while output at agricultural organisations increased by 4.6% to 10.35 billion rubles.
In May, agricultural organisations produced 160,200 tonnes of livestock and poultry, an increase of 8.2% year-on-year, while milk production rose by 3.1% to 817,100 tonnes. In January-May, livestock and poultry production increased by 5.3% to 769,800 tonnes, while milk production rose by 2.7% to 3.82 million tonnes.
Industrial production totalled 18.25 billion rubles in May. In comparable prices, it increased by 3% compared with the same month of 2025. Over January-May, industrial output declined by 1.4% to 88.39 billion rubles.
Inventories in industry stood at 11.91 billion rubles as of June 1. Compared with May 1, they increased by 160 million rubles. Before that, inventories had been declining for two consecutive months. Inventory levels amounted to 84.1% of average monthly output, up 1.6 percentage points over the month.
Fixed capital investment totalled 5.1 billion rubles in May. It increased by 9.6% year-on-year. Over the first five months of the year, investment rose by 1.5% to 20.8 billion rubles.
A total of 235,500 square metres of housing was commissioned in May, an increase of 23.2% from a year earlier. At the same time, housing construction supported by state programmes fell by 19.7% to 27,000 square metres. In January-May, housing completions declined by 19.5% to 1.08 million square metres, including a 38.8% drop in state-supported housing to 152,200 square metres.
Freight turnover increased by 1.1% in January-May to 29.45 billion tonne-kilometres, while passenger traffic rose by 0.8% to 704.1 million passengers.
Retail turnover amounted to 9.9 billion rubles in May. It increased by 5.1% compared with the same month of 2025. Over January-May, retail turnover rose by 7.1% to 44.56 billion rubles.
Wholesale turnover increased by 5.1% in May to 15.5 billion rubles. Over the first five months of the year, it declined by 0.6% to 73.86 billion rubles.
Public catering turnover rose by 4.4% in May to 701.9 million rubles. Over January-May, it increased by 0.5% to 3.09 billion rubles.
