The apartment of economist Pavel Daneika, who was convicted in absentia, has been put up for sale. The auction notice appeared on the BelYurObespecheniye platform.
In February last year, the Minsk City Court handed down a sentence against Pavel Daneika. He was sentenced in absentia to 12 years in prison and fined 13,000 base units. According to the prosecution, Daneika joined the Coordination Council in August 2020 and, “as one of its members, carried out active actions to achieve the goals of an unconstitutional seizure of state power.”
The auction for the sale of the 152.7-square-metre apartment will take place on April 23.
This is not the first case in Belarus in which apartments belonging to people convicted on political grounds have been sold.
