Another 17 People Recognised as Political Prisoners in Belarus

Human rights defenders have recognised another 17 people as political prisoners, the human rights centre Viasna reports.

They are Mikhail Palaznik, Yulia Kavalenka, Anastasiya Kavalenka, Aliaksei Pustakhod, Andrei Yankovich, Dzmitry Kazhadub, Tsimafei Puhachou, Dzmitry Kasenka, Siarhei Komar, Andrei Balmakou, Alyaksandr Hetchanka, Dzmitry Chavusau, Alyaksandr Chykindzin, Anatol Kalinouski, Yury Rukshta, Siarhei Shcharbakou and Viktar Yaumenenka.

They have been detained or convicted in connection with interaction with “extremist formations” and the exercise of freedom of expression.

As of 7 April 2026, 922 people are recognised as political prisoners in Belarus.
