About 520 Drones Were Defused in Belarus Last Year — Karpiankou

In Belarus last year, about 520 unmanned aerial vehicles were defused. This data was provided by Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Commander of the Internal Troops Mikalai Karpiankou.

“In close cooperation with our special units, our sapper and explosive ordnance disposal teams are working. There are many tasks. This year, our sappers have neutralised 27,000 explosive items. There have been 6,700 operational deployments — practically 20 to 25 calls every day.

Our sappers neutralise dangerous objects, showing courage and heroism. Over the past year, we have significantly upgraded our sapper units, and they now have all the essential advanced equipment needed to carry out the most complex demining tasks. There are, of course, quite a lot of such tasks, especially in the Homiel region. About 520 drones were defused over the past year. It turns out that every third one is combat-grade. Last year, 12 people were awarded military orders and medals.

We provided serious assistance to our workers. During the harvesting campaign — in July, August, and September — we inspected 23,000 hectares of agricultural land. Only after inspections by our sappers did harvesting teams enter the fields and carry out their work,” he said.

According to Karpiankou, three drone centres have been established within the structure of the Internal Troops.

“Seeing how extensively unmanned aerial vehicles are used in the special military operation, we began assembling them ourselves, created three unmanned aviation centres, and now a fourth centre will be established within a special forces unit in the Homiel region. Our drone operators have repeatedly travelled to the Russian Federation for training exercises and internships. We have won prize places in many competitions,” he added.

The deputy minister also noted that the protection of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) against drones has been strengthened.

“We have significantly strengthened the protection of the Belarusian nuclear power plant against unmanned aerial vehicles. Special equipment has been purchased. We have repeatedly tested it, and it works quite effectively. The sky over the Belarusian nuclear power plant is closed. The interaction between special units, operational personnel, and airspace protection against drones produces very good results. The station is reliably protected,” he said.
