However, he wants to understand what the purpose of holding such a meeting would be. He said this today at the Obuz-Liasnouski training ground.
According to him, he is also ready to work within the Peace Council format.
“Okay, let’s do it together. But not just to play along there — as a decoration. That doesn’t work for me. I tell them directly that I am not ready to meet Donald Trump for that purpose.
To meet with him (that would be good, it would be very useful for Belarus), you need to understand: we meet, and then what (next. — ed.)? Say hello and go our separate ways?” he said, according to his press service.
Lukashenka confirmed that the possibility of a deal with the United States remains on the table.
“We are ready for both a small deal and a big deal”, he said.
Lukashenka noted that initially, contacts with the United States concerned political prisoners exclusively. He also made a disparaging remark about Siarhei Tsikhanouski.
“For God’s sake, take them. Everyone was worried: ‘Oh, Tsikhanouski has been released!’ And where is Seryozha? They can’t find him. Nobody needs him”, he said.
He also outlined topics for discussions with the United States.
“We are open. They have lifted sanctions on a number of our enterprises and are ready to lift more. There are a lot of issues,” the head of state said. “Embassies — let’s discuss how we will resume [their work]. Nuclear materials and other things — we have a whole program there — please. If you want to buy potash fertilizers from us (if you want to) — please.”
“I said openly that I am a Trumpist, I supported Trump. I see his mistakes. I tell this directly to his best friend, who is supposed to come to us”, he said.
Lukashenka also said today that Belarus is supplying the United States with a shipment of potash fertilizers. In addition, he demanded the return of more than $40 million that has been “stuck” at the US-based Citibank.
