Ukrainian Defence Ministry Adviser: A 2022-Style Invasion From Belarus Will Not Be Repeated

Ukrainian Defence Minister’s adviser Serhii “Flash” Beskrestnov commented on reports of threats coming from Belarus. According to him, Ukraine is monitoring activity that could pose a threat to Ukraine or Europe in the future, but there are currently no signs of readiness to launch an attack “as early as tomorrow.”

Beskrestnov stressed that intelligence services are closely monitoring the situation and that Ukraine has sufficient fortifications and troops along the border to repel any potential aggression. He added that a large-scale invasion in the format seen in 2022 is no longer possible.

“A large-scale invasion in the format of 2022 will not be repeated. The war has changed. Any column of military equipment would not last even a few hours. Opening a front from Belarus could have only one purpose — to draw part of our forces to a new section of the front. Or, for example, Russia could use Belarus as a staging ground for launching missiles or Shahed drones. Our army is prepared for a wide range of scenarios and developments,” he wrote on Facebook.

The adviser also expressed hope that the people and armed forces of Belarus would not allow themselves to be drawn into the war.

“I sincerely believe that the people and armed forces of Belarus see the current nature and consequences of this war for all sides and will not allow themselves to be dragged into this madness. The peoples of Ukraine and Belarus have nothing to divide and no reason to be hostile toward one another,” he added.
