Two New “Extremist Formations” Designated in Belarus

The Belarusian Interior Ministry has designated the “Belarusian Special Forces Unit 1514” as an “extremist formation”, while the KGB has designated the Kamarouka project as one.

Security agencies believe that Andrei Tratsieuski, Stanislau Shashko and Kiryl Balakhonau are linked to the “Belarusian Special Forces Unit 1514” project, while Dzmitry Zavadski, Volha Kasienchuk and Kseniya Kamenka are linked to the Kamarouka project.

Kamarouka describes itself as the first Belarusian international marketplace. The project offers Belarusian goods for sale, ranging from interior items to clothing.

The 1514 special unit of Belarusian volunteers is part of the “Timur Special Unit” of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine’s Defence Ministry.

The Belarusian authorities regularly use extremism charges to target political opponents and dissent more broadly.
