Ukraine Attacks Railway Bridge in Chonhar

Ukrainian drones struck bridge infrastructure in Ukraine’s Kherson region, according to Vladimir Saldo, whom Russia has appointed governor of the occupied part of the region. According to him, Russian air defence systems and mobile fire groups shot down 25 Ukrainian drones overnight. Among the targets damaged was the railway bridge in Chonhar.

“The enemy made another attempt to attack bridges in the Chonhar direction. Traffic towards the Dzhankoi border checkpoint is currently suspended. The enemy also struck the bridge linking Henichesk with the Arabat Spit overnight. Specialists have already inspected the structures. Traffic has been resumed under a reversible traffic scheme,” he wrote.

The Chonhar bridges — the railway bridge and the dam crossing the Syvash Bay — connect Russian-occupied territories in southern Ukraine with annexed Crimea. Last week, a drone attack overnight damaged the bridge deck in the Chonhar area. The bridge was also damaged in a missile strike in August 2023.
