Truck Carrying 20 Tons of Scrap Metal Detained on Way to Russia

A truck carrying 20 tons of scrap metal to Russia without documents was detained on the M1 highway in the Talachyn district, the Interior Ministry press service reported. A Renault truck driven by a 55-year-old resident of Sviatlahorsk was stopped by economic crime officers, traffic police from Viciebsk and OMON officers.

During an inspection of the vehicle, officers discovered about 20 tons of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal worth more than 35,000 rubles. The cargo was being transported without accompanying documents. The driver admitted that he planned to sell the metal in Russia.

An administrative protocol was drawn up against him for the illegal export of scrap metal and metal waste. He faces a large fine and confiscation of the cargo.
