Traffic Police Fired Shots to Stop Driver from Pruzhany

Traffic police officers used a firearm to stop a driver from Pruzhany, the Interior Ministry’s press service reported.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening. Traffic police officers signaled the driver of a Renault to stop, but he ignored the order and attempted to flee.

“The offender did not respond to the inspectors’ repeated lawful demands and attempted to escape, creating a real threat to the lives and health of citizens while driving. A decision was made to use a service weapon,” the traffic police said in a statement.

The car was being driven by a 41-year-old resident of Pruzhany. He had never held a driver’s license. He also showed obvious signs of alcohol intoxication.

“A blood sample was taken for testing. The vehicle was placed in a secured impound lot. The driver was placed in a temporary detention facility,” the Interior Ministry added.
