“The Last Dog” Between Fairy Tale and Reality: Janusz Hawryluk’s Project Recognized at the Krakow Film Festival

“The Last Dog” is the title of a new documentary project by Belarusian-Polish filmmaker and director of the Bulbamovie Belarusian film festival Janusz Hawryluk. The film, which is currently in production, has attracted the attention of international industry experts and received a special award from NO PROBLEMO MUSIC at the prestigious Krakow Film Festival 2026.

The award was presented during the industry section of the festival, KFF Industry. The project is being developed within DOC LAB POLAND, a program of the Władysław Ślesicki Film Foundation and the region’s leading incubator for documentary films.

What is the film about?

“The Last Dog” is a story unfolding at the intersection of magical fairy tale and harsh reality. At the center of the narrative are two outsiders from completely different worlds: Laurent, an architect from Belgium, and Jasiuk, a street musician from Hajnówka in Podlasie.

The protagonists try to preserve their friendship, confront mythical “potters,” and search for their place in the world. The film offers a subtle exploration of human relationships against the backdrop of a borderland region.

Project Team: Independent Cinema Professionals

The film is being produced by a team well known in Poland’s independent film community. It is backed by ZIZU Films and producers Karol Zagorski and Konrad Zagorski. The studio frequently works on intimate, highly personal stories and specializes in bringing local cultural projects to major international platforms and pitching forums, providing filmmakers with strong production support across Europe.

For an independent documentary, recognition from NO PROBLEMO MUSIC represents a significant practical boost at the post-production stage. The company is a specialist in music supervision and sound design, and the award opens up concrete opportunities for the project team.

Since one of the film’s main characters is a street musician, professional work on the soundtrack will help fully develop his character and create the very atmosphere that exists “between fairy tale and reality.”
