On November 14 at 9:30 a.m., the Supreme Court of Belarus will hear an appeal against the verdict of the Minsk City Court in the case of political prisoner and journalist Ihar Ilyash. The news was reported by journalist Syarhei Vahanau.
In September, Ilyash was sentenced to four years in a high-security penal colony. The journalist was also ordered to pay a fine of 100 base units. In his final statement, Ilyash rejected all charges and did not plead guilty.
Ilyash is the husband of Belsat journalist Katsyaryna Andreyeva, who was sentenced to 8.3 years in prison in a state treason case.
Ihar Ilyash was detained in October 2024. He is charged under articles on the “discrediting of Belarus” (Article 369-1) and “aiding extremist activities” (Part 2 of Article 361-4).
