Squally Winds Disrupt Electricity Supply in More Than 500 Settlements Across Belarus

Adverse weather conditions and squally winds have disrupted electricity supply in more than 500 settlements across Belarus. Falling trees have damaged power lines, with the most difficult situation reported in Vitsyebsk and Minsk regions, BelTA reports, citing Belenergo.

A total of 82 repair crews and 85 units of specialised equipment have been deployed for emergency restoration work. An operational headquarters has been established at Belenergo, and energy workers are operating under an enhanced regime.

In Vitsyebsk Region, as of 4:30 p.m., restoration work was under way on two 110 kV power lines, one 35 kV line and 16 lines with a voltage of 10 kV. Electricity supply was temporarily disrupted in 74 settlements, mainly in the Verkhniadzvinsk, Polatsk, Beshankovichy and Shumilina districts. Forty-five emergency crews, 162 workers and 45 units of specialised equipment were involved in the response. A special operating regime has been introduced at Vitsyebskenergo.

As of 7:00 p.m., restoration work in Minsk Region was continuing in 81 settlements, according to Minskenergo. A total of 112 emergency crews and 136 units of specialised equipment have been deployed. Particular attention is being paid to the hardest-hit districts.
