On March 18, some political prisoners were removed from at least two Belarusian penal colonies, the human rights centre Viasna reported.
According to rights defenders, they were taken from Colony No. 15 in Mahilyou and Colony No. 1 in Navapolatsk.
On the same day, talks were held in Minsk between Alyaksandr Lukashenka and US President’s Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale.
Lukashenka said Belarus is ready to follow agreements with the United States regarding political prisoners.
“But we have discussed this issue remotely, in correspondence. I think that, in general, we have come to a certain understanding. And the Belarusian side is ready to follow our agreements. I think there will be no particular problems here,” he said.
