The slalom canal near Minsk has been filled with water as part of the reconstruction of a hydraulic engineering facility at the Zaslawje Reservoir near the village of Hanales. This was announced by Syarhei Paneu, director of the state enterprise Gordorstroy, BelTA reported.
Repairs to the hydraulic complex itself require it to be drained, so in order to maintain the water level of the Svislach River and Minsk’s water facilities, water is being supplied through the rowing canal — the second outlet of the Zaslawje Reservoir. Water supply is planned throughout 2026 until the completion of the main construction works.
According to Minskvodakanal, the volume of supplied water is calculated only to maintain the required levels. The canal may not be used for swimming, including with watercraft. Visitors are advised to observe safety precautions.
The Minsk slalom canal was built in 1981 as an exact copy of the Olympic course in Munich and served as a training base for the Soviet national canoe slalom team. It had not been used for many years.
