School Bus Crushes Driver In Svislach

The Investigative Committee is investigating a criminal case over an incident in Svislach where a school bus crushed its driver.

According to the Investigative Committee, the incident took place in January. The starter on one of the buses became jammed. The 50-year-old bus driver informed his 62-year-old supervisor about the breakdown.

“Instead of sending the vehicle for repairs to specialists at the local bus depot, the manager ordered that the problem be fixed in-house.

The driver did not object. During working hours, at his home, he began repairs: he installed a jack, placed wooden blocks underneath and climbed under the bus, expecting to quickly deal with the fault. However, the structure failed, and the multi-tonne bus fell, crushing the man”, the Investigative Committee said.

The driver suffered serious injuries. At present, his life and health are not under threat.

Following the inspection, a criminal case was opened against the 62-year-old mechanical engineer under Part 1 of Article 306 of the Criminal Code, covering violations of occupational safety rules resulting in serious bodily injury through negligence.

He was responsible at the company for ensuring compliance with safety regulations. At the same time, the driver did not have the right to carry out such work: he had not undergone the necessary training, instruction or knowledge testing.
