Russian Federal Assembly Completes Ratification of Agreement with Belarus on Mutual Enforcement of Court Decisions

Russia’s State Duma and Federation Council approved within two days a bill ratifying the agreement between Belarus and Russia on the mutual enforcement of court rulings. The agreement was signed on December 18, 2024, in Moscow.

The agreement applies to court decisions issued in civil cases and in criminal cases insofar as they concern civil claims, предусматривающим obligations of the debtor to make payments to the claimant, including the recovery of state duties, other legal costs, and procedural expenses.

The ratification bill must now be signed by the Russian president. Once the agreement enters into force, court decisions from one country will be enforced in the other without a special recognition procedure. Enforcement documents will also be recognized.
