On the night of Aug. 22, Russia launched a massive missile and drone attack on Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Air Force reported, the main targets were the Kyiv and Odesa regions.
Starting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 21, Russian forces used Iskander-M and S-400 missiles, three Kh-31P/Kh-59 air-launched missiles, as well as “Banderyol” loitering munitions and 217 Shahed-type, “Gerbera” and “Parody” decoy drones.
As of 9 a.m., three air-launched missiles, six “Banderyols” and 182 drones had been destroyed or suppressed. Hits by airborne weapons were recorded at 41 locations, while debris from downed targets fell at 12 locations.
In Kyiv, a railway worker was killed in a strike on a railway facility in the Darnytskyi district. According to Ukrzaliznytsia board chairman Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, the strike was carried out with ballistic weapons. The foreman died at the scene. The other workers were evacuated after the first strike.
The Odesa railway also came under attack. The station building at Rozdilna was damaged.
Russian strikes in the Odesa region also damaged several energy facilities operated by DTEK Odesa Electric Networks. The company reported that the damage was significant and that restoring the equipment would take time. After receiving permission from the military and emergency services, energy workers began emergency repairs. DTEK warned of possible disruptions to critical infrastructure facilities.
