Russian forces struck the locomotive of a passenger train in Volyn, about two kilometers from Ukraine’s border with Poland, Ukrzaliznytsia reports.
“For the second day in a row, the enemy has been striking the railway. Today in Volyn, two kilometers from the border with Poland, the enemy struck the locomotive of a passenger train. The monitoring team promptly warned the train crew of the threat, thanks to which no one was injured. We continue to monitor aerial threats, ensure train services and take maximum measures to protect passengers and railway workers,” Ukrzaliznytsia said.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on EU and NATO countries to strengthen sanctions against Russia following the strike on railway infrastructure near the Polish border.
“Russia’s barbaric strikes on the Ukrainian-Polish border crossing at Yahodyn are not simply a continuation of attacks on our country’s borders. This is Putin’s terror, ‘knocking’ directly on the doors of the EU and NATO. Russian barbarians are at your gates, dear partners.
Act immediately: bring the full weight of your sanctions down on Putin’s aggressive regime.
Let Moscow feel the consequences of its terror. Not half-measures, but uncompromising, powerful steps. A full trade embargo. A complete entry ban. Full sanctions on the military-industrial complex. Putin must understand that his barbarism will be met with decisive measures that will raise the cost of the war for him to an unacceptable level. This is the only way to stop him,” he wrote on X.
According to Andrii Demchenko, a spokesman for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Russian forces did not attack the Yahodyn crossing itself on the Ukrainian-Polish border, RBC-Ukraine reports. He said Yahodyn is operating normally and that the strike hit railway infrastructure.
