Russia And Ukraine Exchange Prisoners Through Belarus

Russia and Ukraine carried out another exchange of prisoners of war. Each side handed over 200 people, the Russian Ministry of Defence said.

According to the ministry, the Russian servicemen are currently on the territory of Belarus, where they are receiving medical and psychological assistance. They are later expected to be transported to Russia for treatment and rehabilitation in medical institutions of the Russian Ministry of Defence.

The United Arab Emirates and the United States acted as intermediaries in organizing the exchange.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, a new prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine under a “300 for 300” formula is scheduled for March 6. According to the ministry, a total of 500 Russian servicemen are expected to be returned on March 5–6.

The exchange of prisoners was also confirmed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to him, those released include defenders of Mariupol and of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions. They include soldiers of the Armed Forces, the State Special Transport Service, border guards and members of the National Guard.

“I am grateful to everyone who helps Ukraine. Thank you to the United States for supporting the implementation of this exchange. I thank all our warriors who at the front ensure the replenishment of the exchange fund for Ukraine. The return of our people home is the result of the strength of Ukrainian defenders,” he wrote on Telegram.
