Belarusian propaganda gave an unusual interpretation to yesterday’s admission by Aliaksandr Lukashenka that his son Mikalai had joined the army.
As a reminder, Lukashenka unexpectedly said that his younger son Mikalai was serving in the military and that he had been “called up” by Viktar Khrenin, the defense minister.
“My younger son is already serving in the army. No one even knew. Viktar called him up. He is serving in the army, as required, like everyone else. A lieutenant. I won’t say where, but in the most difficult unit,” he said.
The anonymous Telegram channel “Nevolfovich”, which is close to the Defense Ministry, decided to use the fact to ridicule opponents of the Belarusian ruler.
“Lokhushko was wondering whether Mikalai Lukashenka would join the army, and today he got his answer! So, you draft dodgers, did you get that?” the channel’s anonymous authors wrote, attaching an excerpt from a YouTube program by opposition politician Pavel Latushka.
The military propagandists’ message reads as though Mikalai was sent to the army to spite Latushka.
To be fair, the question of Mikalai’s military service after graduating from university was first raised by the authors of the program “Sasha, What Are You Talking About?!” on July 7, 2026.
