Potatoes and Vegetables Posted the Sharpest Price Increases in June

Inflation stood at 0.3% in June, while the annual rate slowed to 4.3%. The largest price increases were recorded for seasonal products following the arrival of new potatoes and vegetables on the market, as well as the expiry of price caps on products supplied under state procurement contracts.

According to Belstat, compared with May, potato prices rose by 63.35% in June, carrots by 54.02%, onions by 23.62%, cabbage by 22.43%, beetroots by 17.94%, and preschool education services by 9.3%.

The sharpest price declines were recorded for cucumbers, which fell by 32.85%. Fresh mushrooms became 5.18% cheaper, apples 4.32%, avocados 4.28%, and garlic 4.13%.

Since the beginning of the year, potatoes and vegetables have also recorded the steepest price increases. Compared with December last year, potato prices have risen by 65.24%, carrots by 60.04%, cabbage by 38.36%, grapes by 28.03%, suburban train fares by 26.79%, international train fares by 26.18%, and suburban bus fares by 25.88%.

Compared with December, the largest price declines were recorded for fresh cucumbers, down 51.36%, followed by apples at 20.51%, sweet peppers at 16.17%, citrus fruit at 15.56%, and garlic at 11.19%.
