Poland’s Border Guard and the Operational Command of the Armed Forces informed about another incursion of weather balloons from the territory of Belarus.
“In the night of February 15 to 16, 2026, military radar systems detected new objects resembling balloons entering Polish airspace from the direction of Belarus.
The objects were continuously identified and remained under observation by military reconnaissance systems. The situation was brought under control and did not pose a threat to air traffic safety or the security of Polish citizens. The observed violations of our airspace were similar to incidents recently recorded near the Polish-Belarusian border,” the command said in a statement.
The Border Guard noted that the objects were likely weather balloons used by smugglers.
“They are likely balloons used by smugglers. An investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident,” border guards added.
So far, there have been no reports today of smugglers being detained or weather balloons carrying contraband being found.
