Advisor to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya Anatol Liabedzka discussed with Speaker of the Lithuanian Seimas Juozas Olekas the signing of a statement on cooperation between the Lithuanian parliament and Belarusian democratic forces. A possible date for the signing could be the opening of the Council of Europe information centre in Vilnius, the Parliamentary Channel reported.

The talks also covered the organisation of a roundtable titled “Lithuania–Belarus: From Challenges to Solidarity, From Opportunities to Negotiations.”

Another topic was the activities of the Seimas parliamentary group “For a Democratic Belarus” and plans to hold a meeting of the Alliance of Parliamentary Groups “For a Democratic Belarus” in Lithuania in 2027.

Issues related to legislative initiatives were raised as well, including a possible ban on Belarusians’ participation in local elections, as well as a political resolution of the Seimas and a resolution marking the 40th anniversary of the Chornobyl disaster.

According to the channel, during the meeting Olekas stressed that both the Lithuanian Seimas and he personally remain strategic allies of the Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya and the democratic forces of Belarus.
