The Belarusian Interior Ministry reported the arrest of a 30-year-old man suspected of fraud. The damage from his actions may exceed $2 million.
According to police, the man posed as an expert in cryptocurrency investment in Telegram chats. He promised quick returns with high interest as bonuses. However, instead of investing the received funds, he gambled them away in online casinos.
“It is currently confirmed that over a six-month period, the suspect obtained funds from citizens of Belarus and Russia amounting to more than one million Belarusian rubles. Preliminary information, which is being verified, indicates that more than 50 people may have suffered losses exceeding two million dollars,” the Interior Ministry said.
A criminal case has been opened. The man had previously been convicted of fraud.
