Poland Refuses to Lift Sanctions Against Three Belarusian Citizens

Poland has refused to lift sanctions against three Belarusian citizens and two companies. The sanctions were imposed in October last year.

The sanctions were challenged by Andrei Karpovich, Uladzimir Liashchuk, and Veranika Pental, who are linked to the companies STEELTRADE Sp. z o.o. and OMNI GRP Sp. z o.o.

In justifying the restrictive measures, the Polish side stated that the companies in question are engaged in trade in metal products, hydraulic and heating equipment, among other goods. At the same time, part of the shipments made on behalf of these companies to third countries ultimately ended up in Russia. They were re-exported by legal entities from Kazakhstan and China.

In petitions submitted at the end of the year, the sanctioned individuals insisted that they do not provide support for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, are not connected with persons directly supporting such aggression, do not participate in supplies to the Russian Federation through pre-export, and that the Polish sanctions are insufficiently substantiated.

Poland’s Minister of Interior and Administration requested an additional opinion from the National Revenue Administration and ultimately refused to grant the petitions.
