The head of the United Transitional Cabinet, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, and the president of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Seamus Boland, have released a joint video message titled “Freedom for All Political Prisoners in Belarus.” The message was recorded in Brussels on June 17, 2026.
Boland noted that more than 400 Belarusian political prisoners have been released since June 2025. According to him, release is only the beginning, as many former prisoners face serious challenges, including a lack of documents, forced emigration, language barriers and the need to rebuild their lives.
Tsikhanouskaya stressed that hundreds of people remain behind bars and urged the public not to forget them. Boland said that the EESC would continue supporting Belarusian civil society and advocating for the release of all political prisoners.
