Polish military personnel have completed their examination of a Russian drone that was previously recovered from the Baltic Sea.
Military police detonated the warhead fitted to the drone overnight. The remaining components were removed from the beach in Rusinowo for further examination.
Bartosz Okoniewski, deputy district prosecutor for military affairs at the District Prosecutor’s Office in Poznań, told PAP that the drone was equipped with a fragmentation high-explosive warhead and a fuse. The warhead was successfully separated from the aircraft and then detonated directly on the beach.
Preliminary examination results indicate that the drone was a Russian-made Gerbera-2. The prosecutor’s office is conducting a preliminary investigation. The drone was likely lost by the Russian military during a training flight over the Baltic Sea and subsequently washed ashore in Poland.
