Former political prisoner and journalist Andrzej Poczobut has returned to Poland from Belarus. This was reported by Gazeta Wyborcza. He crossed the border through the Kuźnica checkpoint.

Poczobut left for a week-long trip to Belarus last Tuesday, September 8. During the week, he visited Hrodna, Minsk, Vaukavysk, the Voranava district and other places. Andrzej Poczobut met with representatives of the Union of Poles in Belarus.

It should be recalled that Belarusian journalist of Polish origin Andrzej Poczobut was detained in March 2021. In February 2023, he was sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of inciting hostility and calling for sanctions. In April 2026, the journalist was released as part of a “5-for-5” exchange and transferred to Poland.

After his release in April 2026 as part of a prisoner exchange, Andrzej Poczobut repeatedly stated his intention to return to Belarus. Upon his release, he received a Belarusian passport and assurances that he would be able to return to the country.
