One Month From Robbery Conviction to Murder: Man Sentenced to 19 Years in Pinsk

A court in Pinsk has found a 36-year-old man guilty of torture, murder, violence and threats of violence against a person performing a public duty to prevent a crime (Part 1 of Article 154, Part 1 of Article 139 and Article 366 of the Criminal Code). He was sentenced to 19 years and three months in a maximum-security penal colony.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the murder took place on October 21, 2025. The defendant became involved in an argument with his 30-year-old partner.

“The man repeatedly grabbed the woman by the hair and dragged her around. During the conflict, he used a knife to cut off part of her hair and then struck his partner at least 23 times with his hands and feet to the head and body, including hitting her head against the floor. The defendant recorded what was happening on his mobile phone camera,” the statement said.

The defendant did not stop there and eventually strangled the woman.

During the assault, he was interrupted by the victim’s grandmother, who pleaded with him to stop and threatened to call the police. The defendant then threatened the elderly woman, struck her at least nine times with his hands and feet, grabbed her by the neck and squeezed it.

The Prosecutor’s Office noted that the man committed the murder one month after being convicted of robbery.

The court also ordered him to pay the victim’s father 50,000 Belarusian rubles in compensation for moral damages.

The verdict has not yet entered into force and may be appealed.
