As of 4:30 a.m. on October 22, nearly thirty flights were affected by operational restrictions at Vilnius Airport, the airport’s press service reported.
“According to preliminary information, the decision to impose airspace restrictions was made after meteorological balloons were detected heading toward Vilnius Airport. The airspace above the airport will remain temporarily closed until 6:40 a.m.,” the statement said.
As of 4:30 a.m. on October 22, the following flights were affected by the restrictions at Vilnius Airport:
- BT990 – Lisbon (LIS) – Vilnius (VNO) diverted to Kaunas (KUN);
- GW3724 – Antalya (AYT) – Vilnius (VNO) diverted to Kaunas (KUN);
- SK1740 – Stockholm (ARN) – Vilnius (VNO) returned to Stockholm (ARN);
- LO274 – London (LCY) – Vilnius (VNO) diverted to Warsaw (WAW);
- LH898 – Frankfurt (FRA) – Vilnius (VNO) diverted to Riga (RIX);
- FR1830 – Treviso (TSF) – Vilnius (VNO) diverted to Kaunas (KUN);
- SK742 – Copenhagen (CPH) – Vilnius (VNO) diverted to Palanga (PLQ);
- DY1083 – Vilnius (VNO) – Oslo (OSL) canceled;
- BT922 – Berlin (BER) – Vilnius (VNO) diverted to Riga (RIX);
- W61914 – Barcelona (BCN) – Vilnius (VNO) diverted to Kaunas (KUN);
