French fighter jets patrolling Latvian airspace have shot down a drone for the first time, the country’s National Armed Forces said.
“Allied fighter jets successfully shot down a drone that entered Latvian airspace!” the statement said.
According to the National Armed Forces, the drone entered Latvian airspace as a result of Russian electronic warfare activities.
Earlier today, Latvian authorities announced a potential aerial threat. An orange alert was declared in the Rēzekne and Ludza municipalities, while authorities also warned of a possible threat in the Alūksne and Balvi municipalities.
The alert was lifted after the announcement that the drone had been shot down.
Earlier, NATO aircraft also destroyed drones in Estonia.
