National Bank Lowers Standard Risk Levels for Loans and Deposits in August

The National Bank of Belarus has decided to lower its standard risk benchmark values for August.

The following benchmarks will apply in August:

  • for new fixed-term non-revocable Belarusian-ruble deposits by individuals with maturities from one to three years — 12.9% per annum (-0.42 percentage points);
  • for new fixed-term non-revocable Belarusian-ruble deposits by individuals with maturities of more than three years — 14.62% per annum (-0.19 percentage points);
  • for new investment loans granted to legal entities (excluding preferential loans) — 10.69% per annum (-0.39 percentage points);
  • for new loans granted to legal entities (excluding preferential and investment loans) — 12% per annum (-0.26 percentage points);
  • for new loans granted to individuals (excluding preferential loans) — 17.9683% per annum (-0.13 percentage points).

Banks that exceed the standard risk benchmark values are subject to stricter regulatory requirements regarding capital adequacy, the creation of special reserves to cover potential losses and the mandatory reserve fund. As a result, the benchmark indirectly influences borrowing costs in Belarus.
