The migrant whose body was found 50 metres from the Latvian border in Belarus’ Braslau district on June 2 has been identified as Yuvaraja Judeunistan, a 22-year-old citizen of Sri Lanka. Relatives of the Tamil man shared the information with Reform.news. He arrived in Belarus in December, reportedly for a “business meeting.”
The family learned of Yuvaraja’s death from a friend of the deceased. He sent them a photograph of the body in a bag, an image that had not been published by either Belarus’ State Border Committee or the Investigative Committee. The relatives contacted Reform.news after finding an article about the case on our website. They asked for assistance in determining where the body was being held and how it could be repatriated.
As previously reported, Belarusian border guards discovered the body of a foreign national without documents and bearing signs of physical injuries near the Latvian border in Braslau district on June 2. Marks consistent with dragging were found on the ground leading from the European border fence, while a coil barrier blocking an animal gate had been dismantled. The Braslau District Department of the Investigative Committee is conducting a preliminary inquiry and establishing the circumstances of the incident.
According to documents shared by relatives, Yuvaraja Judeunistan arrived in Minsk by air on December 18, 2025, and received a single-entry Belarusian visa at the airport valid until January 1, 2026. The visa cost him $145. He travelled to Belarus intending to reach the European Union.
The visa support application submitted to the Citizenship and Migration Department of the Consular Directorate of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry was filed by the director of Ramiz Enterprises LLC. According to the document, the purpose of the visit was a “business meeting with the director of Ramiz Enterprises LLC to exchange experience in the field of public catering and discuss the possible future development of business activities in the Republic of Belarus.”
The company therefore provided visa support for a migrant who intended to cross the EU border illegally.
It remains unclear on what legal basis the Tamil man stayed in Belarus until early June 2026. However, he last spoke with relatives by phone on May 26, 2026. At that time, Yuvaraja said he was still in Belarus.
At the request of the family, we contacted the Braslau District Department of the Investigative Committee. Officials refused to provide any details, but from the context of the conversation it appeared that the young man in the photographs resembled the deceased. Earlier, the Belarusian State Border Committee’s press service had described the deceased as being of “Arab appearance.”
Reform.news will pass all collected information and the relatives’ contact details to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow to assist with identification and the repatriation of the body.
