Belarus’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed the deaths of two Belarusian citizens in a road traffic accident in Batumi, Georgia, the state news agency BelTA reported.
According to the ministry, the victims were a woman born in 1983 and a man born in 1963.
“Another 12 people with moderate and minor injuries were taken to hospitals,” the Foreign Ministry said.
As previously reported, the tragedy occurred on the morning of July 25 at the intersection of Gorgiladze and Vazha-Pshavela streets. According to Georgian media, a tourist minibus and a passenger car collided. Following the impact, the minibus overturned, while the car crashed into the wall of the Batumi Art University.
The minibus was reported to be carrying a tour group from Belarus. Two people were killed, and at least seven others were initially reported injured. Witnesses said the impact was so severe that some passengers were thrown from the vehicle.
The injured were taken to various medical facilities in Batumi, where they are receiving treatment.
Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has launched an investigation under Article 276 of the Criminal Code, which covers violations of road traffic safety rules. The circumstances of the accident are being established.
