Belstat recorded monthly deflation in August. The consumer price index fell by 0.1%. At the same time, annual inflation accelerated to 4.5%. We looked at which goods and services saw the biggest price increases and decreases in August.
Avocados saw the biggest price increase in August — 17.01%. Motor oil prices rose by 13.41%, air transport services became 6.41% more expensive, live flowers by 4.98%, and spare parts for vehicles by 4.8%.
The biggest price declines in August were recorded for seasonal agricultural products. Carrots became 36.78% cheaper over the month, potatoes — 36.22%, beets — 32.97%, white cabbage — 28.8%, and fresh tomatoes — 22.66%. Fruit and vegetable products as a whole became 9.63% cheaper.
Compared with December last year, onions saw the biggest price increase in August — 35.51%. Matches rose in price by 27.81%, economy-class regional train tickets by 26.79%, flash drives and memory cards by 26.25%, and suburban bus fares by 25.86%.
The biggest price decline compared with December last year was recorded for cucumbers in August — 66.52%. Tomatoes cost 43.02% less than in December, apples — 28.31% less, and bananas — 22.52% less.
