Belarusian Defense Ministry To Form Territorial Defense Nationwide In Exercise

The Ministry of Defense of Belarus has announced another training exercise, this time focused on the formation of territorial troops. The exercise is being led by First Deputy Defense Minister — Chief of the General Staff Pavel Muraveika.

Representatives of the General Staff, executive committees, and military commissariats are involved in the exercise.

“At 9 a.m. today, a training exercise began to form territorial troops of the Republic of Belarus in all administrative and economic centers of the country, involving all regional and district executive committees,” Muraveika said.

Participants will practice issues related to collecting and analyzing information on the progress of formation activities, as well as making the necessary decisions.

According to Muraveika, a “complex environment” has been created for the exercise, taking into account ongoing processes in Europe and new provisions set out in the defense plan.

“We are also guided by modern challenges and threats and by the actions of various regular formations in contemporary military conflicts.

Territorial defense today is one of the key areas for ensuring the security of the Republic of Belarus. In particular, only by making national defense a matter for the entire population can the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity be guaranteed. This is the focus. This is what the main content of the exercise will be devoted to,” the Chief of the General Staff added.

He noted that there is already experience in forming territorial defense units at the scale of one or two regions. However, this exercise covers all six regions and Minsk.

“The scope of the activities being carried out is significantly increasing, and certain formation timelines are being considerably shortened. This should provide us with another layer of information to further improve both the territorial troops and the territorial defense system as a whole,” Muraveika said.
