Russian President Vladimir Putin and Aliaksandr Lukashenka are expected to hold talks in the near future. One of the topics will be recent statements made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This was announced on Monday by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
According to Interfax, Peskov was asked during a briefing whether Putin and Lukashenka planned to discuss Zelenskyy’s statements.
“Indeed, and as you know, Aliaksandr Hryhoravich (Lukashenka) has spoken about this, contacts are planned in the foreseeable future. This will be a good opportunity to discuss these and other issues.
These are absolutely aggressive threats, interference in the internal affairs of another country and an encroachment on the sovereignty of another state.
But we have no doubt whatsoever that the leadership of Belarus and Belarus itself are capable of ensuring their sovereignty.”, Peskov said.
Zelenskyy recently stated that retransmission equipment has been installed on Belarusian territory and is being used by Russia to guide drones toward targets in Ukraine. He gave Lukashenka one week to disable the equipment, saying that otherwise the Ukrainian side would destroy it itself. Zelenskyy also suggested that Lukashenka stop supplying fuel to Russia, hinting at possible consequences for the Mazyr Oil Refinery. He later said that the issue of the retransmitters was not new and had developed over a long period of time.
