The Human Rights Center Viasna has learned of the detention of a man over the weekend while crossing the Polish-Belarusian border. The circumstances of the detention and the man’s further fate have not been disclosed.
The center emphasized that phone checks, interrogations, and detentions continue at Belarusian border crossing points. All detainees are placed in temporary detention facilities in the nearest city until trial, after which they are either fined and released or subjected to administrative arrest. Some are also detained on criminal charges.
