The Mahiliou Region Prosecutor’s Office has sent to court a criminal case against a 42-year-old resident of Mahiliou. She is charged with large-scale embezzlement through abuse of official powers.
The woman worked as a chief accountant. According to the prosecution, from January 2023 to December 2025 she transferred more than 268,000 roubles to herself from the company where she was employed. The payments were made under the guise of wages, financial assistance, holiday pay and other grounds. The motive for her actions is said to have been a gambling addiction.
“She spent the money on online casinos — according to an expert conclusion, she has a pathological inclination toward gambling,” the prosecutor’s office said.
The damage caused to the enterprise has been partially compensated in the amount of about 83,000 roubles.
The defendant remains in custody.
