Lukashenka Sets Requirement for Graduates of Belarusian-Chinese Educational Programmes

Aliaksandr Lukashenka met with the leadership of Peking University today. According to his press service, one of the purposes of the visit to the university was to attend the graduation ceremony for the first cohort of students in the joint Belarusian-Chinese educational programme in biotechnology between the leading universities of the two countries. It was previously reported that his youngest son, Mikalai Lukashenka, is enrolled in the programme. Mikalai Lukashenka attended the meeting, seated to his father’s right.

“When I was here 10 years ago, I realised that we should achieve something together with your university in the field of education. Over the past 10 years, we have developed a joint programme to educate our young people at this university. But I would like you to understand how I see it: these are only the first steps. Our programme needs further improvement, and we must deepen it so that the experience and knowledge gained by the young people studying here spread widely across Belarus.

Receiving an education at one of the world’s leading universities is only the first step, and all of this is for the sake of production that will be based on the education our young people receive here,” Lukashenka said.

He also expressed the hope that graduates of the biotechnology programme would go on to establish enterprises and manufacture products in Belarus using Chinese technologies.

“Above all, in pharmacology. Your experience and technologies for producing medicines and vaccines are extremely important to us, particularly in the field of biotechnology, where we have begun our cooperation,” he said.

According to Lukashenka, graduates of the programme will be employed in Belarus. At the same time, Chinese and Russian companies, among others, were interested in hiring them.

“But I have a strict requirement: after receiving an education at your university, these young people must work in Belarus in close cooperation with Chinese companies and produce specific medicines — in this case, for the treatment of cancer — in Belarus. The President of China agreed with this approach,” Lukashenka said.

In 2022, the Belarusian State University and Peking University signed an agreement to establish a joint undergraduate programme in biotechnology. In July 2025, they signed another agreement on the same speciality at the master’s degree level.
