EU to Continue Imposing Sanctions on Belarusian Authorities

The European Union will continue imposing sanctions on the Belarusian authorities. European Commission spokesperson Anitta Hipper said this on Monday during a briefing.

She was asked whether the European Commission had any message for Aliaksandr Lukashenka, who might need assistance to avoid being drawn into the war.

“The only help that Belarus needs is more common sense of not letting itself be dragged into this war. Belarus is already part of this, and Russia is dragging Belarus into this war by deepening its relations with Lukashenko. From our side, wherever Russia goes, destruction follows, as we have seen, and due to the fact that Belarus is an enabler of Russia’s war of aggression, we have continued and we will continue to impose sanctions on this regime.,” she replied.

Hipper declined to assess the prospects of Belarus becoming more actively involved in the war.

“We will not go into these scenarios. We have already the reality on the ground, and this is that Belarus is providing full support to Russia. We have seen also what Lukashenko has done in terms of hybrid threats towards the EU, including the instrumentalization of migrants. So precisely this is why we have these targeted actions against its regime,” she added.
