Aliaksandr Lukashenka met today with Mohamed Ahmed Al-Yamahi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament. He is leading a delegation from the Arab Parliament of the League of Arab States, which is visiting Belarus.
The Arab Parliament is expected to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the National Assembly.
“It is with great pleasure that I meet with you. I support the documents and the memorandum that you intend to sign with our Parliament. We will fully support these initiatives by our two parliaments.
At any time, should you wish, we are ready to meet and discuss the pressing issues in our relations. I would like these discussions to have a practical dimension,” Lukashenka said, according to his press service.
He stressed that he has good relations with the leaders of many League of Arab States member countries.
“With the leaders of your countries, which you represent, and not only yours but also the countries that are members of the League of Arab States, I have long enjoyed good relations not only at the state level but also on a personal level.
We have a solid foundation for strengthening our relations, and that foundation is a peaceful approach to resolving any issues and settling all matters through diplomacy and at the negotiating table whenever such issues arise,” he continued.
Lukashenka also stressed that Arab countries should be interested in Belarus.
“You know that Belarus is a major engineering country with a developed agricultural sector, healthcare, education, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and other industries,” he said.
In his view, the war between the United States and Iran demonstrated the need for Arab countries to look not only to the world’s major wealthy nations but also to countries of comparable standing, such as Belarus.
“We must all draw the appropriate conclusions, acknowledge mistakes if they were made, and act in a way that reduces the likelihood of repeating them. That is why we are offering you cooperation that would diversify your current relations,” he added.
Lukashenka also called for closer ties among Arab countries.
“I support closer relations among Arab states. They should adopt a consolidated position on major global issues and remain united in defending a common point of view. I have voiced such criticism before, especially after the Israeli army bombed Gaza,” he added.
