Lithuanian Foreign Minister Speaks About Contacts With Belarus

Lithuania maintains contacts with Belarus. Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys said this in an interview with Ziniu Radijas. One form of communication is the delivery of diplomatic notes to Minsk’s representative.

According to Budrys, relations between Vilnius and Minsk are currently not at their lowest point. That point was reached last year, when operations at Vilnius airport were regularly disrupted by smugglers’ weather balloons. The situation is much better now, he said. The minister noted that Lithuania maintains contacts with Belarus.

“We are in a much better situation thanks to our communication with Belarus, we have communicated with Belarus. I cannot confirm today that it happens every day, but I would say almost every day, because we have more than one channel for transmitting information. In the end, the Foreign Ministry also does this every day. In every case when our airspace is violated, when we receive reports about it, a protest note is sent to Belarus”, he said.

According to him, other agencies also have communication channels.

“We also have channels operating in individual institutions, so there is no need to turn this into a major story or make it a big event, as if someone called or met or said something.

Depending on the situation, what problems arise and what needs to be done, we will communicate at that level. And the fact that states have communication channels is more than normal”, he said.
